Their relationship would be just as bullshit if either of them were a girl - it’d be really, really fucking creepy if Jake were female and Dirk was pushing his intentions with robot beatdowns/assumed groping, actually. And if Dirk were female it still paints her in a rather odd light, Jake might even find that intimidating. Who knows, it’s mostly conjecture and there are others who could articulate this way better than I can, I bet.
The fact that they’re both male should merely present an additional obstacle, and that obstacle doesn’t seem to be proving all to much to surmount as we’ve seen Jake legitimately consider the position, rather than outright state ‘no’ without further deliberation.
The only thing the two characters being male means to most is that we get to see all the rabid, worst-of-the-worst yaoitards go ballistic over it. We then get to see people who aren’t blinded by senseless cockmashing to get their shit in a tizzy and rant about why things aren’t as assured as they seem to be.
You’re not encountering complaining so much as you are people trying to voice some sense into a situation where a great swathe of fans pounce on the most insignificant detail and decide that this utterly canonizes a pairing. Anyone saying Hussie is blatantly, in the most egregious way, catering might have to get their head inspected, so I’d discount what they say almost immediately.

I do feel obligated to point out I believe it was AR who forced those settings onto Jake. AR seems to be a younger, far more immature, pushy personality that’s reflective of Dirk but still distinctly different.
I appreciate the fact you don’t agree Hussie formulated their dynamic for the sole sake of pandering to the fanbase, but unfortunately during this process, you seem to be demonizing anyone who might entertain the idea that Jake and Dirk might actually become canon.
Yes, there are fans on one side of the spectrum who are rabid and unrelenting in their arguments that Jake/Dirk is already canon. Yes, there are fans on the opposite side who choose to wear the blinders of ignorance and handwave the obvious romantic subplot between Jake/Dirk with stupid excuses and accusations of pandering.
But not everyone who supports Jake/Dirk is a “cockmashing yaoitard”, and what you fail to realize is that this sweeping generalization is completely inaccurate.
